Muhammad Ali Jr.

THE GREATEST AND THE LATEST

It started the way the show normally does: Hall of Fame Trainer of Champions Aaron Snowell welcomes in our listeners and proceeds to introduce me as the radio aficionado. After I lead off with a quick look at the top stories we'll be talking more about later on, I take our listeners on a "Magic Carpet Ride" around the world highlighting boxing events in countries far and wide. But this past Saturday morning was different; Aaron mentioned that I should "Fly" through the schedule because a special guest was coming on soon. So at about 11:15am EDT on Saturday, August 15, our special guests did indeed come on live on The World Boxing Review Radio Show. Muhammad Ali, Jr, son of The Greatest Of All Time, and Rich Blum, Jr visited our show to promote their new Anti-Bullying Organizationmuhammadalilegacycontinues.com. Ali, Jr spoke of the need to get in touch with these young people, both the aggressor and the subject, to teach them self-confidence. The goal is ultimately to prevent suicides and mass school shootings. "Schools are a place for higher learning", Ali said. Rich mentioned the precepts of peace, love and joy.

Once the message was delivered, we couldn't help but comment on how much alike the two Ali's spoke. As Ali Jr started doing more imitations relating to his father's past opponents, such as Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson (who he called Rabbit" because of the back of the head punches) and Smokin Joe Frazier, at about the 2/3 mark of the show (39:30 or thereabout), Muhammad broke into an impromptu a cappella version of "Happy Birthday" sung to me! For the record my birthday was the day before but it didn't diminish the incredible moment that I will cherish and talk about forever. After some more talk regardingmuhammadalilegacycontinues.com, the show was nearing its end when Muhammad, Rich and Aaron all sang a reprise. Thanks to the Latest, son of the Greatest, and Rich for a truly memorable Birthday moment. Please visit their website and help spread the word about anti-bullying - cyber attacks included. Mark down on your calendars Monday October 5, 2020 as National Anti-Bullying Day but better yet, let's make everyday Anti-Bullying Day.
